About this event

Braving the Holidays: A SLIP Lunch & Learn

πŸŽ„ The most wonderful time of the year? Sure! But sometimes it's also the most stressful.

Between family gatherings, holiday meals, packed schedules, emotional ups and downs, and the occasional relative who tests every ounce of your patience, the holidays can be a lot to handle!

Join Saluda Living in Place (SLIP) for a special Lunch & Learn dedicated to helping our community navigate the season with better health, a calmer mind, practical resources, and a healthy sense of humor.

πŸ“… Wednesday, November 18, 2026

πŸ•› 12:00–1:00 PM

πŸ“ The Saluda Center, Saluda, NC

We've brought together a wonderful mix of guests to share different approaches to staying healthy, grounded, and resilient through the holidays and beyond.

🌱 NOURISH YOUR BODY β€” Nelson Campbell

We're delighted to welcome Nelson Campbell, writer and director of the documentaries PlantPure Nation and From Food to Freedom , co-author of The Whole Truth , and a passionate advocate for plant-based nutrition and healthier communities.

Nelson, who co-founded PlantPure Communities with his wife, Kim, has dedicated much of his work to helping people discover the power of food and lifestyle choices. He'll bring his perspective on health and well-being to our holiday conversation.

🧘 FIND YOUR CALM β€” Rob Bruce

Need a little peace in the middle of the holiday chaos? Rob Bruce will introduce us to Qigong (pronounced "chee-gong"), a gentle mind-body practice combining slow movements, focused breathing, and relaxation. It's a wonderful introduction to a practice that can help us slow down, reconnect, and find a little balance when life gets hectic. No special equipment or experience necessary!

❀️ KEEP YOUR COOL (AND STAY OUT OF TROUBLE!) β€” Free Fletcher & Rob Parsons

The holidays aren't always easy, especially for those navigating recovery, difficult family dynamics, or heightened stress.

Free Fletcher and Rob Parsons from 4ALL Recovery Community Center will share practical tips, encouragement, and information about local recovery resources. Whether you're supporting someone in recovery, navigating your own challenges, or simply looking for healthier ways to handle holiday stress, this conversation offers something valuable for everyone. Because sometimes the best holiday gift you can give yourself is knowing when to take a break, ask for help, or walk away from an argument before it becomes a story everyone tells at Thanksgiving next year!

🍽️ AND OF COURSE, LUNCH!

Saluda Mexican Grill will be providing a Fajita Bar!

🏑 MORE GOOD NEWS FROM SLIP!

We're excited to share that SLIP's Home Safety program has recently been awarded a grant from PCCF! This support will help further our mission of making our community a safer place to live and age in place.

Come for the conversation, enjoy some community connection, and leave with a few new tools for making this holiday season a little healthier, happier, and less hectic.

We hope to see you there!
