Lunchtime Recital and Artist Talk with Clarinetist

Igor Begelman

Accompanied by pianist, Lisa Won Jung Kiser.

Join us for a special lunchtime treat as clarinetist Igor Begelman pairs up with pianist Lisa Kiser at the Tryon Fine Arts Center on Thursday, November 12th at 12:30 PM for a midday recital titled “Journeys in Song & Dance.” Striking the perfect balance between a formal performance and a casual conversation, this interactive lecture-recital invites you to explore the lighter side of classical, cinematic, and jazz music. Igor will guide you through the program with fun commentary, explaining why these pieces are so enjoyable to play and hear—making it an ideal, accessible event for seasoned music lovers and newcomers alike.

Rather than focusing on dense, full-length compositions, the performance highlights the most melodic and rhythmic movements of celebrated works. The program features gorgeous operatic and folk traditions via Dvořák’s Song to the Moon and the rhythmic vitality of Lutosławski’s Dance Preludes , the energetic brilliance of Weber and Poulenc, and John Williams’ playful “Viktor’s Tale” from The Terminal . The journey culminates in a lively celebration of Americana with George Gershwin’s Three Preludes arranged for clarinet and piano. Don’t miss this wonderful opportunity to pause your day for great music, engaging stories, and fantastic company.

Rave Reviews for Igor Begelman

“He played with a gracious sense of style and an excellent sense of musical personality.” Houston Chronicle , TX

“Mr. Begelman is a virtuoso who has full command of his instrument and performs with a very sonorous, round and dark tone.” Bieler Tagblatt , Biel, Switzerland

“Begelman has the gift of being natural, of making the listener believe that his instrument is an extension of himself. His sound is often so light it floats, and it does so in any register at any dynamic level.” Philadelphia Inquirer , PA
